Cafe Bahay
Celebrating good company and baked goods.
about
My friend and I had just settled into a new home in the town of Napa. As a housewarming event, we thought of creating a cafe in our home. We had ideas of who to invite, what drinks to create, and even a menu. The idea of this day was for friends to stop by our home, chat, and have good food.
Friends could stay and hang out, or explore the Napa Valley. Additionally, we wanted to create an identity with the house that visitors will remember us by. What began as a passion project evolved into something more.
Illustrated invitations
I wanted to create hand drawn invitations to send to others. I intended to showcase the atmosphere (and food) of what friends were to expect at this event.
Originally, I wanted to create a small logo alongside the cafe name as an accent piece. This evolved into the idea of implementing this logo into the event.
Bahay
/ba‧hay/
a Filipino word that primarily means house or home. It can also be translated as "residence" or "dwelling”
My friend and I were trying to come up with a name for this housewarming. We wanted the name to represent warmth and gathering. My friend, who is half filipino, came up with the word “bahay” as a simple translation to the english word home.
The logo
Similar to cafe branding, we wanted to utilize our logos on products that would be used in store. This included our invitations, a wax seal for letters, and stamps for our cups.
Many iterations were drawn up, trying to find a focal point of the house. This landed on our matured nectarine tree in our backyard.

IDENTITY icons
The stamp has accented lines and decoration for our cups, surrounding the nectarine. I added the address along the lines as a way to break the circular motion, as well as promote our location.
The wax seal has a standalone nectarine for a cleaner design on the wax. The decor around the stamp would not appear clearly if pressed into wax, so it was removed.
